01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Along the streets of Nishi-Waseda, soba specialist Asanoya welcomes weekday lunchgoers with affordable midday sets such as the assortment of 2 seasonal tempura with seiro. The chilled buckwheat noodles slide down smoothly, paired with freshly fried, light tempura showcasing the flavours of the season. Alongside the cold noodles served with dashi-rich dipping broth, the kitchen also prepares limited-quantity handmade seiro made with buckwheat flour from Uryu, Hokkaido, ideal for days when you want a more pronounced buckwheat aroma.

For a heartier meal, the awasemono combo sets let you mix and match small portions of rice bowls and noodles. Combinations include a small seiro paired with a mini tempura bowl or a small oyakodon, as well as pairings with warm tanuki soba topped with crisp tempura flakes, letting you easily adjust hot and cold dishes to your appetite. If you prefer a single hot bowl, options like curry nanban or niku soba made with Soshu Sangenton pork, or chicken nanban featuring Soshu Kohaku chicken, bring deep savory character directly into the steaming broth.

Come evening, the mood shifts into a quiet dinner setting with gentle background music, well suited to enjoying soba-mae—drinks and small bites before noodles—with celebrated sake labels like Kokuryu, Meikyo Shisui, and Kuzuryu. Finishing your evening with a modest portion of soba after grazing on bar fare makes for an easy, peaceful solo supper. The shop operates exclusively on weekdays and accepts only cash, so it is wise to plan ahead before you go.
